My Specialties Include

Therapy Methods I Use
-
One of the most widely researched evidence-based treatment methodologies is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I utilize this evidence-based method to effectively treat a range of issues, while also optimizing performance in demanding settings and enhancing overall life quality. CBT is grounded in the understanding that thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are deeply interconnected. Common thinking divergences, or cognitive biases, can disrupt this balance, leading to various psychological challenges.
While using CBT techniques, I focus on identifying these automatic negative thoughts and assessing their alignment with reality. If they are skewed, I guide clients through structured questioning techniques to challenge and replace these thoughts with more constructive alternatives. This process is not confined to our sessions but continues as an ongoing practice, fostering insight and behavioral change in daily life.
CBT is highly effective and solution-focused, often requiring fewer sessions compared to other methods. It has proven benefits across various disorders, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, and more. Importantly, CBT has demonstrated efficacy in both face-to-face and online settings, making it a versatile option for clients of all ages. Through CBT, I aim to empower you on your journey to mental wellness and self-discovery.

In my practice, Culturally Responsive Therapy is central. This approach recognizes the vital role of cultural identity in shaping thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. I understand that each individual’s cultural background significantly impacts their life experiences and perspectives. Therefore, I am committed to providing therapy that is not only respectful but also deeply aware of cultural differences.
My approach involves actively acknowledging, understanding, and incorporating various cultural factors into the therapeutic process. This includes being sensitive to cultural norms, beliefs, values, and history that clients bring into the therapy room. By doing so, I create a safe and affirming space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and understood.
Culturally Responsive Therapy is about more than just acknowledging diversity; it’s about actively working to understand and integrate these diverse experiences into the therapeutic journey. This approach is beneficial for individuals from all cultural backgrounds, particularly those who feel their identity has been marginalized. It's a pathway to healing that honors the whole person, in all their cultural richness and complexity.

My approach to DBT involves teaching four key skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills empower clients to navigate emotional challenges more effectively, build healthier relationships, and make constructive life changes. Mindfulness practices are central to DBT, helping clients stay grounded in the present moment and engage more fully with their therapy.
DBT is not just a set of techniques; it's a journey toward a more balanced emotional life. By embracing this therapy, clients can transform their relationship with their emotions, leading to greater peace, stability, and resilience in facing life's challenges.

I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, a highly effective approach, particularly for those grappling with trauma, PTSD, and other stress-related disorders. EMDR is based on the premise that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. This therapy involves the patient recalling distressing images while receiving one of several types of bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side eye movements.
EMDR therapy is unique as it allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. As a trained EMDR therapist, I guide clients through this process, which involves eight phases, focusing on past, present, and future aspects of traumatic memories. This approach has been extensively researched and proven effective for trauma treatment.
EMDR therapy is a path to profound healing and recovery, allowing clients to process and integrate traumatic experiences in a safe, supportive environment. It's particularly beneficial for those who haven't found relief through traditional talk therapy.

Family Systems Therapy is designed to nurture relationships and resolve conflicts within the family unit. This approach recognizes that individual problems must be understood within the wider context of family dynamics. Each family member plays a role in the system, and changes in one member can impact the entire system.
My work in Family Systems Therapy involves identifying patterns, communication issues, and hidden dynamics that contribute to family challenges. We explore the roles each member plays, how these roles contribute to the family's overall functioning, and ways to shift dynamics toward healthier interactions. This approach is particularly effective in addressing issues such as marital conflict, parent-child relationship challenges, and the impact of mental health issues on the family.
Family Systems Therapy is about creating an environment where each member feels heard and valued, fostering understanding and empathy among all members. It's a journey toward a more harmonious and supportive family life, where everyone can thrive individually and together.

I utilize the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy, a research-based approach to strengthening relationships. Developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, this method is renowned for its effectiveness in helping couples enhance their connection and navigate through marital challenges.
The Gottman Method is grounded in four decades of research and focuses on nine essential components of healthy relationships, known as the Sound Relationship House Theory. This approach helps couples deepen their understanding of each other, manage conflict effectively, and create shared meaning in their relationship.
My role while using the Gottman method is to guide couples through exercises that build friendship, intimacy, and respect.
We work on practical skills like effective communication, problem-solving, and ways to manage conflicts constructively. This method is not only about resolving existing issues but also about equipping couples with tools to continue growing together and maintaining a strong, resilient relationship.
Whether you’re looking to rekindle the spark in your relationship, improve communication, or navigate through specific issues, the Gottman Method offers a structured and effective path toward a more fulfilling partnership.

This approach is grounded in empathetic conversation, where the focus is on empowering you to articulate and realize your own values and goals.

It’s an approach that respects your autonomy and encourages exploration of your own motivations. The core of this therapy lies in creating a non-judgmental and supportive environment, where you can openly discuss your hesitations and aspirations.
As a clinician, I utilize this approach to guide you towards clarity about your path, helping to resolve the ambivalence that hinders change. Psychodynamic Therapy is a profound and insightful approach that delves into the deeper, often unconscious, elements of one's psyche. This therapy is rooted in the understanding that past experiences, particularly those from childhood, significantly shape current behaviors and emotional struggles.
Psychodynamic Therapy involves exploring these past experiences and their impact on current life. It aims to uncover patterns in thoughts and behaviors, bringing awareness to the unconscious factors that drive them. This approach is especially beneficial for individuals who seek deeper self-understanding and want to address the root causes of their emotional distress.
I provide a supportive and confidential space where clients can explore their deepest thoughts and feelings. This journey can lead to powerful insights, improved self-awareness, and emotional healing. Whether dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, or unexplained emotional distress, Psychodynamic Therapy offers a pathway to uncovering and resolving underlying psychological conflicts.

Solution-Focused Therapy is a short-term goal-directed method centered on clients' present and future circumstances and goals, rather than past experiences. This approach is ideal for individuals seeking rapid, practical solutions to specific problems or life challenges.
Solution-focused therapy is about identifying and leveraging your existing strengths and resources to create change. We concentrate on what is working in your life and build upon it, rather than focusing extensively on problems. The emphasis is on envisioning your desired future and collaboratively developing a series of steps to achieve these goals.
My role is to ask thought-provoking questions that encourage self-reflection and help clarify your objectives. This therapy is particularly effective for those who are goal-oriented and motivated for change. It's a collaborative, optimistic approach that empowers you to find effective solutions and make positive changes in a relatively short period.
-

This approach shifts the focus from deficits and problems to potential and possibilities. It's about recognizing and cultivating your unique capabilities to overcome challenges and achieve personal goals.
In our sessions, we'll work together to identify and amplify your innate talents, resilience, and resources. This method is not just about addressing issues; it’s about building on what you naturally do best, transforming those strengths into powerful tools for coping, growth, and fulfillment. By emphasizing your positive attributes and successes, we create a foundation for sustainable change and well-being.
Adopting a Strengths-Focused Approach is a journey toward self-discovery and empowerment. It’s about redefining challenges as opportunities to utilize and strengthen your best qualities. My role is to guide you in uncovering these strengths and using them to navigate life’s journey with confidence and optimism.

In this digital format, we can engage in meaningful therapeutic work, using video or voice calls and digital communication.
Telehealth is particularly suitable for clients who prefer a more flexible approach to therapy. Trauma-Informed Therapy is a cornerstone of my practice, providing a safe and understanding environment for clients who have experienced traumatic events. This approach recognizes the pervasive impact of trauma on an individual's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Trauma-Informed Therapy is designed to acknowledge and address the specific needs of those who have been traumatized, promoting healing and recovery.
In our sessions, we work with the knowledge that trauma can fundamentally alter perceptions and responses. The therapy involves creating a supportive space where clients can explore their experiences without fear of re-traumatization. We use strategies to help clients process trauma, build resilience, and develop healthy coping mechanisms. This might include mindfulness practices, body-based therapies, and psychoeducation about trauma's effects.
Trauma-Informed Therapy is an empathetic and effective approach, often providing significant relief and fostering long-term healing. It is beneficial for various conditions, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. My goal is to guide you through a healing process that is respectful, aware, and attuned to your individual trauma experiences, helping you rediscover strength and hope.
